Manchester United can confirm new favourite midfield vs Arsenal

Man Utd host Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend and here are the main talking points ahead of the match at Old Trafford.

After the incredible performance against RB Leipzig in midweek all eyes will be on the Manchester United team selection for their game against Arsenal.

Almost every player on the pitch has a viable alternative at the moment with the fight for places in midfield perhaps the biggest dilemma for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to solve.

United opted for an expansive 4-2-3-1 set-up in their last two league matches but the two most impressive victories of the season have come in Europe after a couple of inspired formation changes.

The diamond midfield which worked so well in midweek might be the best tactic to go for but that in turn raises the question of which players come in to fill it.

Paul Pogba was exceptional on the left side of a diamond with Nemanja Matic and Fred both also capable of playing in their preferred roles. Donny van de Beek worked hard in the attacking role but was outshone by Bruno Fernandes in his second-half cameo. Bringing the Portuguese in from the start might see United discover their best balance in midfield.

Tuanzebe to miss out again

After a fine clean sheet in midweek there is no real reason to change things in defence this weekend, even if it means Axel Tuanzebe remains on the bench again.

His performance against Paris Saint-Germain was supposed to herald a new reign in United's defence but he has instead been watching on from the sidelines since.

Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have done little wrong so it would be harsh to drop either of them, with Tuanzebe only likely to start if Solskjaer switches to a back three again. The continued absence of Alex Telles probably makes a back three less likely with Luke Shaw required at left-back rather than in his role as a makeshift central option.
